First Night Akron has settled in and shaken things up for New Year’s Eve (The Cleveland Plain Dealer)

Organizers feared the inaugural First Night Akron, a family-friendly, alcohol-free New Year’s Eve celebration, would flop, but they were surprised when larger crowds than expected showed up. The event has weathered Y2K and Sept. 11 jitters, and is making changes in its 14th year to keep the crowds coming.
